Getting started with astrophotography

What is astrophotography?

Astrophotography is a (specialization) small part of photography. This involves attempting to capture objects in the night sky. This includes: stars, planets and deep sky objects (DSO).

What is the best place to photograph?

The best place to take photos is in a place that is as dark as possible. Far from enlightenment.

But because the Netherlands is one of the most illuminated places and other countries are often overexposed, it is important to use filters when photographing. Even from an overexposed spot you can have beautiful results. So you can take photos from your backyard or front yard in the center of a city.
If you have the opportunity to get on your bike or get in your car to go to a darker place, do it!! It will make a big difference to the final result.

The best places in the Netherlands:

- De Boschplaat (approximately 10 km area on the east side of Terschelling)

- Lauwersmeer (Northeast Friesland)

Astrophotography can be done in different ways.

Photographing on a tripod, with a tracker, with a Dobsonian or with an EQ mount.
